The knots of purple sage and lavender tumbleweeds became lean indeed– nearly as lean as he felt in his emaciated and underfed form. He wondered about Rider Number Two who had been reported and spotted further West. Rider Two had signaled him with a smoke puff days before. Lot had been following the smoke hoping to catch up but was afraid that when he did he might or might not find someone who was still living. Here on the purple Sands of Pluto life was hard days were cold and nights were colder– and you might just find yourself wandering off alone– the only person noticing being– no one at all.”
