the independent newspaper recently reported that islimists had gained control of parts of mali and where destroying musical instruments and banning public performances of music.
mali has a rich musical heritage and it would be a crime to let this die in the same way that the hard rock and psych scene died in iran after the revolution. the artists featured in this album wish to draw attention to this and agreed to silence their instruments in protest.
